What is the Community Health Leadership Program at Duke?

The Community Health Leadership Program (HLP) at Duke offers a unique chance for health care professionals to develop strong community health planning skills on a part-time basis by combining on-site and distance-based learning. The six-month program builds upon the extensive experience and resources of the faculty and staff of the Duke University Health System.

How long is the program?

The Community Health Leadership Program at Duke is a six month program. There is one on-site visit to the Duke University campus during the program.

Where is the program held?

The on-site portions of the Community Health Leadership Program at Duke are held on the Duke University Campus and at surrounding community sites.

There is one three-day on-site visit to the Duke University campus.

What is covered under the cost of the program?

The course fee includes registration, all course materials, and two meals per day. The program fee does not include transportation costs to Durham or accommodations for out-of-town students.

What is the expected weekly time commitment for the program?

There is an expected learning time of about 4 hours per week devoted to educational activities and course communications. The distance learning piece focuses on the participant's home site and community health project for their community. Depending on the complexity of that project the weekly time commitment may be greater or less than the 4 hours.

Who can participate in the Health
Leadership Program?

The Community Health Leadership Program at Duke is designed for all health professionals and seeks to bring together dynamic groups of people who are dedicated to building collaborative, patient-focused health systems. Health care professionals from all disciplines - clinical, healthcare administration, and public health are encouraged to attend. If you are uncertain if this applies to you, we welcome any communication.

What forms of payment are accepted for
the program?

Payment can be remitted by credit card - Visa or Master Card, or by check, (either personal or departmental) made out to the Division of Community Health.

Is CME (Continuing Medical Education) credit available for this course?

This course is applicable for CME credit and we will provide necessary paperwork. It is up to the participant to apply for the credit hours.
